Do you run more than one location? There are two ways to manage them, and they are called Multi-Location and Franchise. They solve the same problem very differently: Multi-Location turns your locations into one business with one set of client records, while Franchise ties them together as separate companies. Both have their own possibilities and their own catches, so we have put them side by side below.
What are Multi-Location and Franchise?
With Multi-Location you manage all your locations in one account. You work from one set of client records and one product list, and your locations share one booking widget and one subscription. In the calendar, the register and your reports you choose which location you are working on.
With Franchise each location stays its own company with its own account, its own client records and its own subscription. You link those accounts together, so you can move between them without logging in again.
What is shared, and what stays separate?
With Multi-Location these records are central and identical for every location:
Clients
Products and their prices
Gift cards
Services and team members
And these the app keeps per location: stock, appointments, invoices and financial reports.
With Franchise nothing is shared. Each company has its own clients and its own figures; the link only grants access to the accounts.
Can you move between locations in both setups?
Yes. Both setups give you a picker in your account to move between locations without logging in again. The difference is who is allowed to.
With Multi-Location a user's rights apply to the whole account. There are no rights per location, so anyone who can work in your account can also move between locations.
With Franchise it is tighter. Someone only reaches another company if they are a franchise admin, and what they may do there comes from the rights you tick per location. So a franchise owner can move between every location, while the manager of one location only sees their own company.
Can both setups appear on the Treatwell Marketplace?
No, and this is often the difference that decides it. With Franchise it is possible. Each location is its own company at its own address, and that is how each one appears on the Treatwell Marketplace.
With Multi-Location it is not possible, and that applies to your whole account. As soon as Multi-Location is switched on, your company falls outside the selection for the Treatwell Marketplace. So you also cannot list just one of your locations: it is not the case that your main location can appear and the rest cannot. You cannot even express interest. If you want to appear on the Treatwell Marketplace, Franchise is the only setup that allows it.
Please note: the Treatwell Marketplace is not available in every country. Ask our support team whether it applies to yours.
Which setup fits you?
Choose Multi-Location if your locations work as one business: clients can visit any of them and appear once in your records, you want one booking widget, and you want to see the revenue of everything in one overview. You then pay one subscription, and each extra location counts towards the price.
Choose Franchise if the locations really are separate businesses, for example with their own owners or their own bookkeeping. Choose it too if you want to appear on the Treatwell Marketplace, because Multi-Location cannot.
