A domain name is your digital address on the internet (like www.yoursalon.com). Just like a physical street address tells people how to find your salon in the real world, your domain tells clients exactly where to find your website online.
This article explains everything you need to know about setting up, transferring, or purchasing a custom domain through the new Salonized Website service. Whether you already have an established web presence or are starting fresh, we’ve got you covered.
I already have a domain: how do I link it to the Salonized Website while maintaining ownership?
If you already own a domain (e.g., www.mysalon.nl) and have already established your brand, you can remain the owner of your domain.
In this case, we "link" it to your new Salonized website so that when clients type in your address, they land on the beautiful site we built for you.
You keep control: You do not need to give up ownership.
The Connection: We will provide you with specific settings (called DNS records) to add to your domain account. Please ask or inquire with your webmaster or website service provider for assistance.
The Result: Your existing URL stays the same, but it now opens your new Salonized website.
Pricing: As you remain the owner of the domain, the pricing will be handled on your side.
Note: If you have active professional emails linked to your domain (e.g., info@mysalon.nl), we recommend this method (pointing the domain without transferring) to keep your emails safe and prevent service disconnection.
I already have a domain: How do I transfer the ownership to Salonized?
If you already have a domain name but do not want to manage the ownership yourself, Salonized can become the owner of your domain and link it to your new website. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Preliminary checks
Before starting a transfer, it is critical to ensure you have the correct access and have considered your email services.
Email Access: Check if you have access to the domain owner’s email address. The Auth Code is often sent to the administrative contact email linked to the domain. If you do not have access to this inbox (e.g., it belongs to a former employee), the transfer cannot be completed.
Provider Dashboard: Log in to your current provider (e.g., Strato, MijnDomein, GoDaddy, TransIP, OVH, etc.) to check the listed Administrative Contact. Some providers, like OVH, allow you to retrieve the code directly from the dashboard after unlocking the domain.
Professional Emails: If you use an email address ending in your domain, tell us immediately. Transferring a domain can sometimes disconnect your email service, causing you to lose messages.
Step 2: Transfer your domain
Auth code: To transfer a domain, we need a "key" called an Auth Code (Authorisation Code). You can request it from your webdesigner or find it on the tool you use to control your domain.
Transfer: As soon as we receive your authorisation code, we will start the domain transfer process. It can take up to 14 days.
The Result: Once the transfer is completed, we will update the DNS on our side. Your existing URL stays the same, but it now opens your new Salonized website.
Pricing: As we become the owner of the domain, the pricing will be handled on our side.
What if I need a brand-new domain name?
If you don’t have a website yet, we can take care of everything. As part of your website subscription, the domain name is included in the price. Here’s how it works:
You choose a name: Ideally, use your salon's name followed by your country code (e.g., .nl, .de) or .com.
Naming Tip: Keep it simple! Accents and special symbols (like é or &) are not allowed, though hyphens (-) are okay.
Check if it is available here.
We buy it for you: We will purchase and register the domain on your behalf.
We manage it: We handle the annual renewals and technical settings so you don't have to worry about it.
What happens to my domain if I cancel my subscription to Salonized or Salonized Website?
If you decide to cancel your Salonized or website subscription, you can take your domain with you.
If you maintained the ownership of your domain (Scenario 1): You simply remove the "link" we created and point your domain to any other hosting provider or website builder you choose.
If Salonized owns the domain (Scenarios 2 & 3): We don’t want to hold your brand hostage.
Unlocking: We will disable the transfer protection on our end.
The Key: We will provide you with a transfer code (Auth Code or EPP Code).
Moving: You give this code to your new provider to transfer the domain ownership fully into your name.
Note: Transfer codes have an expiration date, so be sure to use them quickly once provided!
