What is the Online Gift Card Widget and how does it work?

Selling gift cards directly through your website is a great way to drive extra revenue and give your customers more flexibility. By adding a simple gift card widget, you can capture sales 24/7, even when your doors are closed. In this article, you will find everything you need to know to make the most of it: how to add it to your website, how to customise it, and what the purchase process will look like for you and your customers.


How do I add the gift card widget to my website?

Adding the gift card widget to your website is quick and easy. Here’s how you can start using the feature with Salonized:

Step 1: Enable the integration with a payment provider

First of all, you need to activate a payment provider on the Integrations page (Settings > General > Integrations).

  • You can choose between three payment providers: Salonized Pay (only for Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and United Kingdom), Mollie and Stripe.

Step 2: Add the online gift card widget to your website

After you have enabled the payment integration, add the online gift card widget to your own website via Settings > Promote > Gift Card Widget > Style and Sharing.

You can set it up in two ways:

  • Add it as a floating button: This method places a persistent button on every page of your website. It is installed by copying a specific code snippet from your settings and pasting it into your website's footer. This ensures maximum visibility, as customers can start a purchase from any page they are viewing.

  • Add it as an open (inline) widget: This method embeds the ordering form directly into the body of a specific page, such as a dedicated "Gift Cards" or "Shop" section. You simply configure the widget settings and paste the generated HTML code onto that specific page. This is ideal for making the module feel like a seamless part of your content.

How can I customise my gift card settings?

You can customise the appearance and settings of your gift card via Settings > Promote > Gift card widget. Here’s a full list of what you can modify:

Main Settings:

  • Giftcard widget language

  • Expiration date: To enable it, tick the ‘Giftcards sold online have an expiration date’ box.

  • Gift card amounts: Set the value that customers can purchase (minimum 5 €).

  • Custom gift card amount: To enable it, tick the ‘Allow customers to enter a custom amount’ box.

  • Custom personal message: Here you can add a personal message to thank customers after a transaction is completed. If no personal message is set, a default message will be displayed.

Style:

  • Colour: Set the colour of your widget.

  • Gift Card Picture: You can choose an image provided by Salonized or upload your own.


How does the gift card purchase process work for customers?

In the gift card widget, customers can complete a purchase in four simple steps:

  1. Choose an amount: Customers select their gift card value from the default options, or add a custom amount if the setting has previously been enabled. Note: These amounts can be fully adjusted in your settings.

  2. Enter personal details: The customer fills in their contact information. If you choose to require address details, the widget will automatically mirror the address settings from your online booking widget.

  3. Overview: The customer views a summary of the purchase, including any transaction fees (mirrored from your online booking settings).

  4. Payment: The purchase is finalised via immediate online payment.

Upon successful payment, the customer automatically receives two separate emails:

  • The Gift Card: An email containing the digital gift card, including its value and unique card number.

  • The Invoice: A separate email containing the invoice for the online payment.

What happens after a customer purchases one of my online gift cards through the widget?

Once a payment is successful, Salonized automatically handles the administration for you:

  • An invoice is automatically generated for the online sale.

  • A new gift card is created with a unique number (by default, these cards are set to never expire).

  • You will receive a confirmation email containing the specific details of the sold gift card.


How can I track the gift card sold through the widget?

  • You can easily manage and track your digital sales by navigating to the Register and selecting ‘Gift Card’ from the top bar.

  • To view only those sold via your widget, use the Online filter located at the top of the page.
